The aim of this certificate is to enable retail executives to develop their business by providing them with innovative strategies and practical tools.

The “strategic retailing” certificate consists of three two-day modules:
Business planning | Retail marketing| International retailing.

Curriculum

Business planning

The seminar focuses on business planning, but it is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the key entrepreneurial methods through the analysis of both the role of entrepreneurs in society and challenges related to creating new ventures, including evaluating the entrepreneurial opportunity, the business model, the business plan, and financing options. Concepts, skills, attitudes, and know-how relevant for creating and setting up a venture as well as the preparation of a business plan are covered. The seminar is framed in terms of growth-oriented new ventures, but the skills developed are not restricted to new or growing businesses.

Retail marketing

The seminar deals with strategic and operational marketing in the specific context of retail companies. It enables participants to acquire a toolbox that can be applied to all kinds of businesses within the retail sector. In particular, it helps them to assess their position in the market, their competition and the future of their activities.

International retailing

The seminar aims to facilitate critical awareness of current legal issues and the business environment informed by leading edge research and practice in retail industry. It will equip participants to develop systematic understanding and critical appreciation of the legal and economic issues surrounding business and their regulations in retailing.

Skills at the end of the seminar

Business planning

Assess their potential as an entrepreneur and question positively their entrepreneurial mindset,
Identify and act on new opportunities through new products or new business models,
Write a feasible business plan and sell a project professionally.

Retail marketing

Understand the basic issues, methods and techniques to operate a retail business,
Know how to apply the retail evaluation toolkit effectively,
Know how to use retail analytic tools to get insights to improve firm performance.

International retailing

Have a systematic understanding and critical appreciation of the legal and economic issues surrounding retail business, and their regulations,
Identify new international opportunities in the retail business and screen them for commercialisation,
Be knowing do’s and don’ts for doing all international business.
